GA FACING EVANS WITH PLAYOFF SPOT AT STAKE

Kickoff A look at Glynn Academy’s next game: Opponent: Evans When: 7:30 p.m. Friday Where: Glynn County Stadium Radio/Video Stream: 102.5 FM; Continental Sports Network (YouTube) Records: GA 5-4; 4-3 Region 1-AAAAA; EH 5-4, 3-4 Region 1-AAAAAA Last week: GA defeated Greenbrier 28-21; EH defeated Bradwell Institute 35-31. Last year/All-time: GA won 22-14; GA leads overall series 4-1 Game Preview Glynn Academy heads into the final game of the regular season knowing a victory will send it to the Class AAAAA state playoffs next week as the fourth-place team from Region 1. Evans can also make the playoffs with a victory over the Red Terrors, but the Knights also would need Statesboro to lose to Lakeside-Evans in its final game on Friday. Statesboro enters that game with four region losses, so a fifth loss would eliminate the Blue Devils. Evans and Glynn would both have four league losses in this scenario, but Evans would get the No. 4 seed from the region with the head-to-head win over the Terrors. If Glynn were to lose to Evans and Statesboro did upset Lakeside-Evans, the Terrors, Knights and Blue Devils would all finish tied for fourth in the region standings and the tiebreaker beyond head-to-head results would be needed to decide the No. 4 seed for the playoffs. That’s because Glynn would have beaten Statesboro during the season, but Statesboro would have beaten Evans and of course Evans would have defeated Glynn. A win by the Terrors makes it simple. Glynn would finish fourth with three league losses while Statesboro would end up with either four or five losses depending on the outcome of its game on Friday and Evans would finish with five losses. The Terrors won at home last week over Greenbrier, breaking a 21-21 deadlock late in the game on an 85-yard run by quarterback Tyree Chisolm. Glynn led the Wolfpack 21-7 at halftime, but after fumbling deep in Greenbrier territory early in the third quarter, the Terrors saw the visitors tie the score at 21-all by scoring the game’s next 14 points. Chisolm ran for 125 yards in the win. Da’Sean Howard led the Terrors with 145 yards rushing on 18 carries. He had a 54-yard touchdown run in the first half and also scored on a short run. Evans started out 2-0 before losing its first three region games to the teams that will be the top three seeds from the league for the playoffs - Lakeside-Evans (No. 2), Brunswick (No. 1) and Effingham (No. 3). The Knights then defeated South Effingham before losing to Statesboro. They have won their last two over Greenbrier and Bradwell. The Knights defeated rival Greenbrier by a 28-17 score the week prior to the Terrors facing the Pack. The offensive line for Evans features 6-foot-6, 315-pound tackle Mason Short, a four-star prospect who is committed to the Georgia Bulldogs. He was originally committed to Alabama before Nick Saban retired following the 2023 season. --- Compiled by Kevin Price for GCS Athletics
