Game Preview
The Red Terrors will be back in action for the first time since Oct. 8 when they won 31-0 at South Effingham.
That game in Guyton was moved up to a Tuesday due to the mid-week threat of Hurricane Milton that same week. Glynn had a regularly-scheduled bye week last week.
Effingham played last Friday night and won big at Greenbrier.
With their victory over the Mustangs, the Terrors stopped a two-game losing slide. They had dropped back-to-back region contests against Lakeside-Evans and Brunswick, the top two teams in Region 1-AAAAA.
Brunswick defeated Lakeside last Friday 61-34 at Glynn County Stadium in a matchup of the only two unbeaten teams in league play, and now the Pirates are in sole possession of first place in the region.
BHS should finish first in the region. Brunswick only needs to defeat the Mustangs or Bradwell Institute in its final two games to secure the region title and top seed for the state playoffs. The Panthers should win their final two league games against Bradwell on Friday and Statesboro next week to lock down second and the No. 2 seed for the playoffs.
The real battle in the region coming down the home stretch will be for third- and fourth-place in the league standings and the final two playoff berths reserved for the region. Glynn and Effingham enter their game Friday night in the mix for those spots.
The Rebels are one of the highest-scoring teams in Class AAAAA as they average 37.1 points a game.
However, their defense has been suspect. The better teams on their schedule have all scored 40-plus points against the Rebels who lost the first three games on their schedule, falling 44-41 at Houston County, 47-44 at home to New Hampstead and 42-20 at home to Brunswick in their region opener.
Effingham then reeled off three straight region wins over Bradwell (35-14), South Effingham (47-0) and Evans (35-7) before losing to Lakeside (58-38). The Panthers scored the final 20 points of that game to win going away.
The Rebels got back on the winning track last week with their 37-7 victory at Greenbrier.
Glynn is averaging 22.6 points a game while giving up 21.4.
GA head coach Rocky Hidalgo says a big key in the game on Friday will be limiting explosive plays by the Effingham offense while trying to generate “chunk-yardage” plays against the Rebels.
Effingham’s junior quarterback Tucker Perkins has thrown for 2,092 yards and 24 touchdowns. His yardage total for the season ranks in the top-five in the state, according to MaxPreps.
Junior T.Y. Chisolm will again start at quarterback for the Terrors who plan to stick with the personnel changes they made along the offensive line going into the South Effingham game.
This will be the final road game on the regular-season schedule for the Terrors. Glynn closes the season slate with home games against Greenbrier next Friday and Evans the following week as the Terrors look to secure a playoff spot.
