TERRORS SURVIVE A SCARE AT STATESBORO

Glynn Academy escaped Statesboro Friday night with a 21-20 victory over the hometown Blue Devils in a Region 1-AAAAA game at Womack Field.
The Red Terrors (3-1 overall, 2-0 region) couldn’t put this one in the win column until they recovered an onside kick by the Blue Devils in the final seconds.
Statesboro missed an extra-point attempt to tie the score and likely force overtime with a late touchdown.
The Blue Devils (1-3, 0-2) had actually lined up to go for two-points and a possible upset of the Terrors, but a false start penalty cost them 5 yards and changed their plans.
The tough loss was the second in a row to start the league schedule for Statesboro which lost big to Greenbrier last week.
The Terrors kicked off their region schedule with a 57-12 win over Bradwell Institute last Friday in their Homecoming game.
Glynn was favored to win this one on the road, but Friday’s win was way more difficult for GA to get than last week’s.
The Terrors went into the game without starting quarterback Jayden Ellis who was unavailable.
So, the Terrors went with backup Nico Munoz at quarterback. He has played early on and played the entire second half last week with Glynn up by more than 30 points going into the third quarter.
Munoz got hurt, however, in the second quarter against Statesboro, forcing Glynn to move T.Y. Chisolm from wide receiver to quarterback for the rest of the game.
Chisolm, one of the Terrors’ best athletes and also a regular in the defensive secondary, played quarterback the remainder of the game for Glynn with the exception of one play.
The Terrors would go into halftime trailing 6-0.
Glynn came to life in the third quarter and scored 21 points to seemingly take charge of the game.
The team’s first score after halftime came on a 31-yard pass from Shawn Wallace to Chisolm. Chisolm had handed the ball off to Greg Peacock and Peacock would then give the ball off to Wallace before he connected with Chisolm for the score.
The extra-point kick was good and Glynn led 7-6.
The Terrors went up 14-6 on a Peacock 14-yard run late in the third. The PAT was good again.
Peacock scored again early in the fourth to push Glynn’s lead to 21-6 after the extra-point. This touchdown came from 2 yards away on a third-and-goal play.
Statesboro wasn’t ready to call it quits, though. The Blue Devils scored with 6:33 to play and added a two-point conversion to make it a 21-14 game.
In the final seconds, a sneak by their quarterback made it 21-20, but then a missed extra-point left that tally on the scoreboard.
The Terrors have now won eight in a row over Statesboro.
Glynn will be back at home next Friday against Lakeside-Evans. The Panthers are 4-0 overall and 2-0 in the region after routing South Effingham 49-6 Friday at home.
