GA leads the overall series 3-1 Game Preview: The Red Terrors are set to return to the Augusta area a second straight week to play another Region 2-AAAAAA game. Last Thursday, Glynn won at nearby Grovetown as the Red Terrors rolled to a 43-3 victory over the Warriors for their third victory in four region games. Meantime, the Knights dropped their first league game last Friday to Effingham after winning their first two region contests. Evans lost to the Rebels at home by a final score of 42-10. The Knights opened region play with victories over Grovetown (27-6) and Lakeside-Evans (16-15) prior to an off week before matching up with the Rebels. Glynn got a monster-game last week from senior tailback Willie Butler who rushed for 300 yards and three touchdowns on 24 carries. His yardage total was the most by a GA ballcarrier with Rocky Hidalgo as the head coach. Hidalgo has been Glynn’s coach since the 2014 season. Butler began the season second on Glynn’s depth chart at tailback behind junior Greg Peacock, but became the starter when Peacock suffered a season-ending shoulder injury in the Terrors’ loss to Effingham on Sept. 29. The Evans offense features senior running back Rayshaun King who has carried for 717 yards and four touchdowns so far this season. He averages 102.4 yards a game. He ran for 105 yards on 22 attempts last week against Effingham. Effingham currently is first in the region at 4-0 while Glynn (3-1), Brunswick (2-1) and Evans (2-1) all have one loss each. South Effingham (1-2) is next with two losses while Lakeside-Evans (0-3) and Grovetown (0-4) are both still winless in region play. Glynn will be off next week before closing out the regular season at home against Lakeside-Evans on Nov. 3. Evans still has to play Brunswick next Friday at Glynn County Stadium before playing at South Effingham in the last game of the regular season. Evans was the region’s fourth seed last fall for the state playoffs behind Brunswick, Effingham and Glynn.
