Getting a huge game from running back Willie Butler, Glynn Academy ran past Grovetown Thursday night as the Red Terrors won 43-3 on the road in Region 2-AAAAAA.
Butler unofficially carried for 295 yards and three touchdowns on 23 attempts as Glynn (6-2 overall, 3-1 region) powered past the Warriors to claim their third victory in four league games.
The GA coaching staff will verify the senior running back’s numbers by watching the game film in the coming days.
Butler had a pair of 78 yard runs and also scored from 51 yards out to give Glynn a 29-3 lead right after halftime.
His first touchdown came from 3 yards out on the Terrors’ opening drive of the night following an interception by Marshawn Turner on Grovetown’s first series which gave GA the ball at the home team’s 40-yard line.
Butler busted loose for his first 78-yard run on Glynn’s second possession to the Grovetown 6 which set up a 3-yard scoring run by junior quarterback Jayden Ellis which put the Terrors ahead 12-0 late in the first quarter.
The Warriors (2-6, 0-4) got on the scoreboard midway through the second stanza with a field goal to make the score 12-3, but the Terrors got a field goal from Tuck Tucker before the close of the opening half to take a 15-3 cushion into halftime.
In the third quarter, Butler again picked up 78 yards on a carry which led to his second score of the night from a yard out as Glynn went ahead 22-3 at the outset of the third quarter.
His 51-yard TD jaunt was a tackle-breaking run which gave the Terrors a 29-3 lead.
Glynn’s final two scores came on a 29-yard pass from Ellis to Sean Wallace and then a short run by sophomore Da’Sean Howard which followed an interception by Trent Tankersley which gave GA the ball deep in Grovetown territory.
The Terrors will travel back to the Augusta area next Friday for a region game at Evans.
