Last year/All-time: GA won 46-13; GA leads overall series 2-0
Game Preview: The meeeting between Glynn Academy and Grovetown was originally scheduled for Friday, but all Augusta-area schools were asked to move a game this season to a Thursday because of the ongoing officials shortage which makes it hard to have enough officiating crews for Friday night games across the state.
The Red Terrors will be looking to win their third region game in four tries while the Warriors are still trying to crack the win column after three straight defeats to start region play. They flirted with an upset last week over Effingham at home before losing. Remember, it was the Rebels who handed Glynn an embarrassing 49-3 loss two weeks ago.
A key for the Terrors will be to keep Grovetown's dual-threat quarterback Amari Clark in check. He has passed for 749 yards and 8 touchdowns, but also has thrown 7 interceptions.
Glynn plans to give junior Jayden Ellis his third straight start at quarterback. Last week against South Effingham, he ran for 71 yards on 13 carries while completing 5 of 8 passes for 89 yards and a touchdown.
GA also got a good game from starting tailback Willie Butler last Friday night. He ran for 101 yards and three touchdowns on 20 carries.
The Terrors and Warriors have only played each other twice. Glynn won last year when the teams met in the regular season as part of the region schedule. The teams also met in the first round of the state playoffs in 2020. The Terrors won 42-3 at home.
Grovetown went 2-2 in the non-region portion of its schedule, but lost its league opener 27-6 at home to Evans on Sept. 22, lost at Brunswick 42-0 the next week and then fell at home last week to Effingham.
Grovetown doesn't have an open week during its region schedule. The Warriors play at Lakeside-Evans next week and close the season on Oct. 27 at South Effingham. Their off week in the region rotation is technically the last week of the regular season.
The Terrors will make this same trip next week when they travel to play at Evans next Friday.
