TERRORS HOPE FOR HOMECOMING WIN

By Kevin Price For GCS Athletics Kickoff A look at Glynn Academy’s next game: Opponent: South Effingham When: 7:30 p.m. Friday Where: Glynn County Stadium Radio/Video Stream: 102.5 FM; Records: GA 4-2, 1-1 Region 2-6A; SE 4-1, 0-1. Last week: GA lost 49-3 at Effingham; SE won 21-0 at home over Screven County. Last year/All-time: Glynn won 13-9 in Guyton. GA leads overall series 8-2. Game Preview: The Red Terrors will look to get back on the winning track Friday as they host the Mustangs for their annual Homecoming game. Glynn played terribly last Friday at Effingham after its emotional overtime win over Brunswick High the previous week in the City Championship Game. South Effingham lost to Effingham that same night by a 42-7 tally in the region opener for both sides. The Mustangs played a non-region game last week and blanked Screven County 21-0 at home. The game was their Homecoming game. Also, head coach Loren Purvis returned to the South Effingham sideline last Friday. He had to miss the Effingham game while serving a one-game suspension after being kicked out of South Effingham’s previous game while arguing a targeting call against one of his players who also had to miss the game against the Rebels for the targeting infraction. Purvis is in his first season as head coach of the Mustangs. He had been at South Effingham previously as the offensive coordinator before working the last two years as the offensive coordinator at Morgan County. South Effingham, which runs the Wing-T, started 3-0 before losing to Effingham. Glynn has won eight straight games over the Mustangs. South Effingham hasn’t beaten the Terrors since the 1997 season. Glynn will likely play the rest of the season without junior running back Greg Peacock who suffered what appears to be a season-ending injury last week against Effingham. Peacock had been hampered by injuries all season. He missed Glynn’s opener against Statesboro, was limited the second week against McIntosh when he suffered a high-ankle sprain. He played against Camden County the following week, but the Terrors sat him out against Baker County in the Border Classic. Glynn then had two weeks to prepare for the Brunswick game. Peacock ran for 90 yards on 19 carries in the 22-15 overtime triumph over the Pirates. Senior Willie Butler is expected to become the team’s starting tailback.
