TERRORS FALL BIG AT EFFINGHAM
A week after their thrilling 22-15 overtime win over rival Brunswick High in the City Championship Game, the Glynn Academy Red Terrors suffered a 49-3 loss at Effingham in Springfield.
Glynn had a chance on Friday to take a serious step forward in the race for the Region 2-AAAAAA championship with a victory over the Rebels.
Instead, it’s now Effingham sitting on top of the league standings along with Evans as both teams are 2-0 after their first two region games.
Like the Terrors (4-2, 1-1), the Rebels (3-3) were coming off a victory over their arch-rival as they blasted South Effingham last Friday night in Guyton.
They made surprisingly easy work of the Terrors on their home field as they opened up a 35-3 lead on Glynn before halftime.
Effingham led 14-3 after the opening quarter and scored three more touchdowns in the second quarter to take the commanding lead into the half.
AJ Butts scored on runs of 78 and 84 yards for the Rebels in the first half.
In the third quarter, the Rebels also scored on a 74-yard pass play that made it 42-3.
They also scored one last time in the fourth quarter which was played with a running clock.
Glynn’s only points came on a 27-yard field goal by Tuck Tucker late in the first quarter.
The Terrors are scheduled to play at home next Friday against South Effingham. The game is Glynn’s annual Homecoming game. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
