GLYNN GOES TO EFFINGHAM FOR REGION CONTEST

By Kevin Price For GCS Athletics Kickoff A look at Glynn Academy’s next game: Opponent: Effingham When: 7:30 p.m. Friday Where: Springfield Radio: 102.5 FM Records: GA 4-1 overall, 1-0 Region 2-AAAAAA; Effingham 2-3, 1-0. Last year/All-time: Effingham won 31-14; GA leads the overall series 19-8. Game Preview: Both teams are coming off victories over their arch-rivals in their Region 2-AAAAA openers last week. While Glynn upset two-time defending region champion Brunswick 22-15 in overtime last Friday, Effingham defeated South Effingham 42-7 in Guyton. A victory over the Rebels would give Glynn a really good chance of going unbeaten in region play. The Red Terrors would be favorites in each of their final four league games. Should the Rebels come away with the win on Friday, they could easily go into the last game of the season at home against Brunswick with a chance to claim the league title outright with a win over the Pirates. This is the third season for head coach John Ford at Effingham. He has guided the Rebels to wins over Glynn the last two seasons. Before his arrival, the Terrors had won 14 in a row over the Rebels including seven straight under head coach Rocky Hidalgo. Top players to watch for Effingham include senior quarterback Nate Hayes who was an all-region selection last season while passing for 1,650 yards. Hayes has thrown for 518 yards in four games this season. Other top players are senior running back Jayden Evans and senior linebacker AJ Butts who also plays running back.
