TERRORS POUND EVANS, 42-20

By Kevin Price For GCS Athletics The Glynn Academy Red Terrors closed out their regular-season schedule with a 42-20 victory at Lakeside Evans on Friday night. The Region 2-AAAAAA win was the fourth in a row by the Terrors after they dropped their opening two league games to rival Brunswick High and Effingham. Those two teams played for the region championship Friday in Brunswick with the Pirates knocking off the Rebels 30-27 in a game that went to the wire before it was decided. Glynn ended up with a 4-2 region record as part of its 6-4 overall record for the season. The Terrors will be the No. 3 seed for the Class AAAAAA state playoffs from the region. They will face Northside (Warner Robins), the runner-up and No. 2 seed from Region 1-AAAAAA, next week in an opening-round game in Warner Robins. Glynn was locked into the third seed before going to Augusta Friday night to finish out its schedule against the Panthers who end their season with a 3-7 record that included only one victory in region play. In Friday’s game, sophomore running back Greg Peacock scored three touchdowns for the Terrors. He scored on a 9-yard run late in the first quarter that gave Glynn a 14-6 lead. He also scored on a 35-yard run early in the second stanza for a 21-6 cushion, and the sophomore runner closed his night with a 59-yard scoring jaunt late in the fourth period that rounded out the scoring. The Panthers scored first in the game, but the Terrors would lead 35-6 at halftime. Glynn’s first score was actually by its defense as linebacker Devonte Lang returned a fumble 54 yards for a touchdown midway through the opening quarter. Following Peacock’s first two scores, GA quarterback Tyler Devlin also scored from a yard out to extend Glynn’s advantage to 28-6 before hitting David Prince from 10 yards away for a touchdown with just over a minute left in the first half for Glynn’s 29-point lead at the break. The second half started with Lakeside’s BJ Grissom returning the kickoff 96 yards for a touchdown that made the score 35-13. The Panthers scored in the final seconds of the third period on a 20-yard pass to pull within 35-20. Peacock closed the scoring with his third touchdown run of the night with 4:26 left on the clock to make for the final score. Glynn is now 3-0 all-time against the Panthers. The two teams played twice previously when they were in the same region during the 2006 and 2007 seasons.
