Lady Terrors into Elite 8

LADY TERRORS INTO ELITE 8

By Kevin Price For GCS Athletics The Glynn Academy girls volleyball team will host an Elite Eight match in the Class AAAAAA state tournament this week. The upstart Lady Terrors played their way into the state quarterfinals with a 3-1 victory Saturday afternoon over Woodward Academy in College Park. Now, Glynn will play inside the GA gym at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday against North Forsyth with a berth in the state semifinals at stake. Glynn is the second seed from Region 2. The Lady Terrors (17-15) went into the region tournament as the No. 5 seed, but made their way into the championship match where they fell to Effingham. Glynn had beaten Effingham earlier in the tournament. The Lady Terrors won their first-round match in the state tournament last Wednesday over Tift County at home. Glynn also won that best-of-5 sets match 3-1. On Saturday, the Lady Terrors won the first two sets against the War Eagles (28-17) by 25-23 and 27-25 before dropping the third set. However, Glynn finished off the match by taking the fourth set. Woodward, the Region 3 champion, had defeated Riverwood 3-1 in its opening-round match. Woodward was ranked No. 14 in the state by MaxPreps and No. 6 by Score Atlanta. North Forsyth was ranked No. 8 by Score Atlanta in the last set of rankings. North Forsyth, the No. 2 seed from Region 8, defeated Lassiter 3-1 in the first round before knocking off Region 5 champion Newnan 3-2 in the second round. Newnan entered that match ranked No. 5 by Score Atlanta. Tickets for Wednesday’s match will be $10.
