Game Preview: The Red Terrors will be looking to win back-to-back games for the first time this season since opening the 2022 campaign with back-to-back victories.
The Terrors won 13-9 last week at South Effingham to snap a four-game losing skid, their longest-ever under head coach Rocky Hidalgo since he took over the Glynn program prior to the 2014 season.
Glynn started the season with an overtime victory at Statesboro and a home win over McIntosh County Academy before dropping its next four games.
The victory over the Mustangs was also the first in Region 2-AAAAAA for the Terrors who lost their first two league games to Brunswick High and Effingham. Those teams appear headed for a showdown in the season finale that will decide the region champion ship and top seed for the state playoffs. Both teams are currently unbeaten in region play after three games.
With a win Friday, Glynn can take a step toward qualifying for the playoffs as one of the region’s top four teams. The Terrors would even both their overall record and region record with a victory. They also have region games remaining against Evans and Lakeside-Evans.
Grovetown is still looking for its first region win. The Warriors have lost to Brunswick, Effingham and Evans.
Also on Friday, South Effingham (2-3, 0-2) is playing host to Lakeside-Evans (3-3, 1-1) while Effingham (5-2, 3-0) is playing at Evans (3-3, 1-1). Brunswick (7-0, 3-0) is off this week.
Friday’s game is Glynn’s annual Homecoming game.
A big key for the Terrors will be keeping Grovetown junior quarterback Amare Clark contained in the pocket. The 5-foot-11, 183-pounder has thrown for 923 yards and 10 touchdowns this season, but he can also make plays with his legs. He has carried for 338 yards and four touchdowns in six games.
Glynn won last week at South Effingham without scoring an offensive touchdown. The Terrors got all of their points off special teams. Their lone touchdown came after a blocked punt and a return for the score. The Terrors also got two field goals from Kody Arnold including a 48-yarder late in the opening half.
The Terrors scored all 13 of their points before halftime and led 13-7 at the break. The only points in the second half came on a safety when Glynn intentionally gave the Mustangs two points late in the contest.
The Terrors then kicked South Effingham deep and the GA defense stopped the Mustangs on their last possession of the game to seal the win.
The Terrors have faced Grovetown just once before. The teams met in the opening round of the playoffs in 2020 with the Terrors winning 42-3 at GC Stadium.
