GA GOES TO GREENBRIER HOPING TO MAKE PLAYOFFS

Kickoff A look at Glynn Academy’s season finale: Opponent: Greenbrier When: 7:30 p.m. Friday Where: Wolfpack Stadium, Evans Records: GA 5-4; 4-3; Region 1-AAAAA; GHS, 2-7, 1-6 Region 1-AAAAA Last week: GA lost 45-42 at home to Effingham. Greenbrier lost 45-35 at home to Evans. Last year/All-time: GA won 28-21. GA leads all-time series 3-0 Game Preview Glynn Academy goes to the Augusta area hoping this won’t be its final game of the 2025 season. The Red Terrors can guarantee themselves the No. 4 seed from Region 1-AAAAA for the upcoming Class AAAAA state playoffs with a victory on Friday night. Glynn can also back into that fourth spot with a loss if Brunswick High defeats South Effingham Friday night at home. In that scenario, the Terrors and the Mustangs would both have four region losses. Glynn would get the fourth playoff spot because of its head-to-head win over the Mustangs which would be used to break the tie. Obviously, South Effingham is hoping to upset the Pirates in Brunswick and then have Greenbrier defeat Glynn which would leave the Mustangs with three region losses and send them to the playoffs a season after going 0-10. Glynn will be making its third trip to Augusta on Friday. The Terrors have already made trips up there to take on Lakeside-Evans and Evans and they won both of those games going away. Greenbrier did knock off Lakeside-Evans in early October by a 21-14 score at home, but the Wolfpack lost to Evans last week 45-35 on their home field. Greenbrier’s first and only other win of the season came back in August when the Wolfpack edged Grovetown 14-12 away from home. This is head coach Sean Tiernan’s second season at Greenbrier. He guided the team to a 4-6 record last year. This season has been a big-time struggle. The Wolfpack lost their best player, senior middle linebacker and running back Cole Trupp, to a season-ending injury early on and that really hurt. Trupp is a college prospect who was an all-region selection a year ago. The Terrors missed a chance last week to secure a playoff spot and possibly finish as high as second in the region if things fell their way this week when they lost at home last Friday to Effingham. In the 45-42 loss to the Rebels, the Terrors gained 545 yards from scrimmage including 501 rushing yards. Sophomore quarterback Max Noonan led the GA attack with 186 rushing yards while scoring five touchdowns. Glynn had 194 yards at halftime and went to the locker room down 24-7 on the scoreboard. The Terrors would trail by as much as 25 points in the second half. They cut their deficit to 10 late in the third quarter but didn’t get any closer until the closing moments when a late touchdown made for the final three-point margin. The Terrors outscored Effingham 22-0 in the fourth quarter. --- Compiled by Kevin Price for GCS Athletics
