GA RUNS AWAY FROM EVANS FOR REGION WIN, 40-17

By Kevin Price For GCS Athletics Glynn Academy is 2-for-2 in Augusta in 2025 after defeating Evans 40-17 Friday night in a Region 1-AAAAA game played on the Knights’ campus. Just two weeks back, the Red Terrors won 54-28 over Lakeside-Evans on the first of three trips they were scheduled to make to Augusta this season for league games. Glynn will play a pair of home games against South Effingham and Effingham before finishing out the region slate on Oct. 31 with its final trip to Augusta to take on Greenbrier in the season finale. The Terrors were seven days removed from losing a tough one to Brunswick High in the annual City Championship Game last Friday when they loaded up the buses to head to Augusta Friday morning. They were locked in a 3-3 game midway through the second quarter until they ran away from the struggling Knights by scoring three times before halftime to open up a 24-3 cushion as they went to the locker room at intermission. GA took an early 3-0 lead on a 21-yard Patrick Coyle field goal that the Knights anwered early in the second quarter. D.J. Creighton, who has been big-time in Glynn’s run game in recent weeks, broke the tie with a 3-yard touchdown run at the 5:49 mark of the second quarter to give the Terrors a 10-3 lead. That was the first of the three scores by the Terrors to close out the opening half. Glynn’s next score came moments later when Lavontee Lockett returned a punt 60 yards for a touchdown and a 17-3 lead following the point-after kick. The Terrors built their lead to the 24-3 margin with another Creighton score from 5 yards away with just more than a minute left before halftime. GA never let the Knights back in the game. The Terrors would go up 31-3 when sophomore quarterback Noonan scored from 8 yards out just more than five minutes into the third quarter. The Terrors would lead 33-3 going into the fourth quarter after getting a safety from a high punt snap by the Knights that their punter kicked out of the end zone, resulting in the two points for Glynn. GA would add to its lead with a 2-yard scoring run by Aiden Wilson at the 8:52-mark of the fourth which was played with a running clock. The Knights, who have had trouble scoring all season, got a pair of long TD runs against Glynn’s backups before the end of the game. Evans fell to 1-5 overall with the loss and 1-3 in the region. This is their first season under new head coach Lee Hutto, a former defensive coordinator at Glynn under Rob Ridings. The only win for the Knights so far this season came in the region opener on Sept. 5 when they knocked off Lakeside-Evans 27-12. Now 4-3 overall and 3-2 in the region, the Terrors will be back at Glynn County Stadium next week for a league counter against South Effingham. The Mustangs won their second straight on Friday, knocking off Greenbrier 34-28 at home in Guyton. Kickoff will be 7:30 p.m.
