The Glynn Academy Red Terrors picked up a second straight Region 1-AAAAA victory Friday night as they raced past Lakeside-Evans 54-28 at Panther Stadium in Evans.
The victory was the first for the Terrors (3-2 overall, 2-1 region) on the road this season as it came in their third game away from Glynn County Stadium in five overall games.
Glynn also now has its first winning streak of the season. GA won its opener against Wayne County before falling at Richmond Hill in non-region action and also at Bradwell Institute in the first region game of the season two weeks ago.
The Terrors won their second league game back at home last week against Statesboro before making the long trip to play Lakeside-Evans (0-5, 0-3) this week.
The Terrors fell behind 7-0 on Friday, but they would proceed to take control of the game before halftime as they scored five times before the break to build a comfortable 35-7 advantage as they went to the locker room.
Glynn got a pair of rushing scores before the end of the first quarter to go in front 13-7. Max Noonan scored first for GA on a 9-yard quarterback keeper before Da’Sean Howard added a 7-yard touchdown run to put the Terrors on top for the first time.
In the second frame, the Terrors found the end zone three times to go up big before intermission.
Noonan teamed with sophomore tight end Grant Ferrell for a 6-yard TD pass that put Glynn up two scores just seconds into the second stanza.
Late in the second quarter, Noonan and T.Y. Chisolm got together on a 61-yard pass that blinked the scoreboard to 35-7 following a two-point conversion play by DJ Creighton.
In between the scoring passes, Noonan ran for another touchdown from a yard out. He had three touchdown runs last week in the win over Statesboro.
With both teams scoring a pair of touchdowns in the third quarter, Glynn led 48-21 going into the final 12 minutes.
Glynn’s third-quarter scores came on a 6-yard run by Howard that made it 42-14. Christian Ingersol also scored from 9 yards out for the Terrors in the third quarter.
In the fourth period, Creighton put Glynn’s final points on the board with an 8-yard touchdown run with just under eight minutes left to go.
The Panthers scored the last touchdown of the night to make for the final score.
Lakeside-Evans finished second in the region a year ago, but lost a large senior class and their head coach who took another job after the Panthers reached the second round of the Class AAAAA state playoffs.
The Terrors are now 5-1 all-time against the Panthers.
Glynn will now gear up for next Friday’s City Championship Game against rival Brunswick High. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at GC Stadium. Glynn is the home team for this year’s game.
