TERRORS TAKE TUMBLE AT BRADWELL, FALL TO TIGERS

By Kevin Price For GCS Athletics The first Region 1-AAAAA game of the season for Glynn Academy didn’t go as planned on Friday night. The Red Terrors were knocked off 35-28 by Bradwell Institute at Olvey Field in the first of eight league games for both teams. The Tigers never led in the game until their long pass play for a touchdown gave them the lead with just over a minute left in regulation. Bradwell tied the score at 28-28 on their previous possession when the home team faked a punt and scored on a 49-yard pass to pull even following the made extra-point kick. Glynn had regained the lead at 28-21 with 6:45 remaining in the game on a 14-yard touchdown pass from Max Noonan to Sean Wallace. The Terrors had won 13 straight games against the Tigers dating back to the 2009 season. GA head coach Rocky Hidalgo had been 9-0 against the Tigers before last night and his Glynn teams had given up more than 14 points only once in the previous games against Bradwell. Last year, the Terrors defeated the Tigers 57-12 at Glynn County Stadium. Bradwell won only two games a year ago, defeating rival Liberty County in the season opener and South Effingham in a region game in mid-October. Bradwell (1-1) lost its final three games last year and lost its opener this season to Liberty. The Tigers’ Week 2 game against Westover was wiped out by inclement weather, and they were off last week. Glynn won its opening game this season against Wayne County but now has dropped two in a row. The Terrors lost 21-0 at Richmond Hill in their second game before having an open date last week. GA jumped out to a 14-0 lead Friday night, scoring twice in the second quarter on a pair of Da’Shawn Howard runs. Bradwell scored late in the opening half to make it a 14-7 game at halftime. Glynn went up 21-7 early in the third, getting the ball right away following an interception by Cooper Reiss on Bradwell’s first offensive series of the second half. The Terrors turned the turnover into points as Max Noonan scored on a keeper from 9 yards out to extend the GA lead. The Terrors couldn’t hold back the Tigers, however. Bradwell pulled within 21-14 with a touchdown, and then after a missed field goal by the Terrors late in the third, the Tigers would connect on a 77-yard pass play to draw even at 21-21 going into the final quarter. Again, Glynn went back in front on that aforementioned TD pass from Noonan to Wallace that gave the Terrors the 21-14 lead. But again, Bradwell tied it late and then added the late score to come away with the region victory. The Terrors will be back at home next week for a region game against Statesboro. Bradwell visits Effingham next week.
