GA GOES TO BRADWELL FRIDAY FOR REGION OPENER

Kickoff A look at Glynn Academy’s next game: Opponent: Bradwell Institute When: 7:30 p.m. Friday Where: Olvey Field, Hinesville Records: GA 1-1; 0-0 Region 1-AAAAA; BI 0-1, 0-0 Region 1-AAAAAA Last week: GA did not play; BI did not play. Last year/All-time: GA won 57-12; GA leads overall series 26-19 Game Preview Friday’s game is the Region 1-AAAAA opener for both teams. Glynn enters the game following an open week. The Red Terrors kicked off the season with a 38-14 victory on Aug. 15 at home against Wayne County before falling at Richmond Hill 21-0 in Game 2. That game was originally scheduled for a Friday night but was postponed until Saturday morning by a lightning storm which didn’t allow the teams to even take the field that night. The two sides then made the call to put off the game until Monday with inclement weather remaining in the area through early Saturday. The game did go on as planned that Monday evening, but the Terrors suffered through a lackluster performance offensively. They played with a offensive line that was reshuffled due to illness and injuries, and their new flexbone attack was out of sync throughout the first half. Glynn fell behind by the 21-0 tally in the opening half and never threatened to score. Bradwell dropped its opener 21-20 at rival Liberty County in Week 1 and the Tigers haven’t played since then. Their home opener on Aug. 22 against Westover was wiped out by the bad weather in Southeast Georgia that night, and the Tigers also had an off week scheduled last week. The Terrors have won the last 13 games against the Tigers including their 57-12 victory last season at Glynn County Stadium when Bradwell became a region opponent once again. The last time the teams played at Olvey Field was in 2021 when Glynn won 35-12. Players to watch for the Tigers include quarterback Carlito Savea, a 170-pound junior, and running back Wade Cobb, a senior and three-year starter with breakaway speed. Junior Khamari Griffin plays receiver and cornerback for the Tigers. The Tigers are coming off a 2-8 season in 2024 when they defeated Liberty in the opening game and South Effingham in their seventh game. --- Compiled by Kevin Price for GCS Athletics
