Football 2025: Red Terrors set sights on more wins, another playoff berth

FOOTBALL 2025: RED TERRORS SET SIGHTS ON MORE WINS, ANOTHER PLAYOFF BERTH

By Kevin Price For GCS Athletics Glynn Academy won eight games or more in seven of head coach Rocky Hidalgo’s first 11 seasons with the team. Last year wasn’t one of those seasons as Glynn finished 6-5 overall after dropping its first-round playoff game at Rome. But with a newly-installed offense and some experienced players returning on defense, the Red Terrors are optimistic they can win more games than they did last fall, and of course, are planning to once again play football into the postseason. The Red Terrors will bring in the 2025 season, their 12th under Coach Rock, on Friday night when they play host to the Wayne County Yellow Jackets at Glynn County Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. between the local stadium’s bricks. The Terrors will play at Richmond Hill next Friday prior to an open week before swinging into region action on Sept. 5 at Bradwell Institute in Hinesville. This season, the Terrors have moved away from their shotgun-triple-option offense and are going to operate from the flexbone. The switch, according to Hidalgo, better suits the players Glynn has on the offensive side of the ball, especially at the skill positions where the Terrors have more running-back types than receivers. With the system change, the Terrors will also call on a new starting quarterback to lead the way. Last season, the signal-caller position involved several different starters due to a variety of issues including player dismissals and injuries. The Terrors will open this season with sophomore Max Noonan at the controls. Noonan saw some varsity time a year ago on the football field while starting on the infield for the GA baseball team as a freshman in the spring. Whether running or throwing, Glynn will look to get the ball in the hands of several play-makers including senior running backs Da’Sean Howard and DJ Creighton and senior receivers Sean Wallace, Vonte Lockett and T.Y. Chisolm who ended the season as the team’s starting quarterback last year. The offensive line will be anchored by senior standout Josh Baker, a three-year starter up front. The Glynn defense will return some of its top players from last fall including linebackers and leading tacklers Smith Whitehead and Cooper Reiss. Both players are juniors this season. Glynn will look to get steady play on the defensive line from leaders James Kennedy, a senior, and sophomore Zamir Bell who could emerge as a dominant force for the the Terrors as a young player. The secondary will include some of those in the skill spots on offense. Chisolm will start at cornerback, Wallace will play safety and Lockett also will see time at one of the safety positions. Senior Qwon Coleman also is slated to start at cornerback while junior B.J. Perkins will be among those getting time at safety. The GA kicker and punter this season will be junior Patrick Coyle.
